PrecisionGO: Integrating genomics, bioinformatics, and big data science for Australian Healthcare

Bridging the Precision Medicine Gap to Bring Personalised Healthcare to the Clinic

Empowering researchers, clinicians and patients to use integrated genomics, bioinformatics and big data science to identify and translate novel biomarkets efficiently into effective personalised treatments.

Why PrecisionGO Matters

PrecisionGO is a pioneering initiative advancing precision medicine (PM) in Australia by developing an end-to-end pipelines for biomarker discovery and personalised treatments. This groundbreaking project integrates cutting-edge technologies, bioinformatics, and education to improve health outcomes nationwide.

  • For Researchers: Access to cutting-edge technologies and training

  • For Clinicians: Personalised treatments and advanced precision medicine workflows

  • For Everyday People: Better outcomes through tailored care

  • For Industry and Policy Makers: Collaborative innovation and commercialisation opportunities

Precision Medicine (PM) remains underutilised due to challenges in integrating genomics into clinical care, a lack of standardised workflows, and limited national infrastructure for biomarker discovery. Current genomics research faces challenges with data interoperability, bioinformatics expertise, and translating discoveries into effective treatments. Existing clinical frameworks struggle with implementing multi-omics approaches, which leads to fragmented patient data and suboptimal treatment strategies.

PrecisionGO directly addresses these gaps by establishing Australia’s advanced end-to-end PM pipeline, integrating advanced biobanking, genomics, cytometry, bioinformatics, and data science technologies. It provides a scalable infrastructure to accelerate biomarker discovery, improve diagnostic accuracy, and enhance personalised treatment pathways.

Aligned with WIMR’s mission to improve health outcomes through innovative medical research, translation, and collaboration, PrecisionGO leverages the expertise of WRH to bridge research and clinical practice. Nationally, it aligns with Australia’s Medical Research and Innovation Priorities, particularly in data-driven health and PM infrastructure. Funded under the MRFF National Critical Research Infrastructure initiative, it ensures a sustainable, nationally accessible model for integrating PM into routine healthcare. By fostering collaboration across research, industry, and government, PrecisionGO is working to establish Australia as a leader in PM, transforming patient care and reducing long-term healthcare costs.
